Description
“Chen-Rezi, Medicine Buddha”. The statue of Chen-Rezi, on which this painting is based, was found by my brother, in a tiny antique shop within the fortress of Foix, Ariege. This is a portrait of the statue which graces my brother’s meditation centre, Tourne, Castelnau-Durban, Ariege in France. I originally painted it in 2004, as a way to assist my internal healing process. It was hung for a while, then relegated to the loft. After very careful and painstaking cleaning of the dust and fabric fronds – I tried everything to little avail. Mama , when questioned “what shall it use”, quite simple stated “turps”. He Presto!, I set to restore and repaint it. It was fully restored in 2018 it looks majestic and new with several new details, enhancing this very powerful deity. I felt its real home was at my brother’s place. I sent it to him (very carefully packaged with recycled material) for his 60th birthday present. The painting now lives at Tourne. What a journey!
