“Kwan Yin”, 76×50 cm Oil on canvas The first Kwan Yin painting I was inspired to paint. Taken from a photograph of a Kwan Yin statue at Gaia House, where I was on retreat in the late 90’s.
“Kwan Yin”. Kwan yin is the Chinese translation of Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion. She was first given the appellation “Goddess of Mercy” or “Mercy Goddess” by Jesuit missionaries in China.[1] Guanyin is short for Guanshiyin, which means “[The One Who] Perceives the Sounds of the World.
