Description
Mischa Maisky is an international, renowned, classical cellist. I had the honour of being at one of his concerts some years back. His dynamic virtuosity, talent and total immersion in the music he is playing, making him “one” with his instrument, is ebullient as it is inspiring. I occasional watch classical artists, both instrumental and vocal, as I am also a trained opera singer, and find so much joy and inspiration from selected artists and performances. Such was a period of watching and listening to Maestro Maisky, and also where he performs with his daughter, Valery, is so eclectic and engaging.
This painting is taken from a still photo of Mischa Maisky in performance. I totally appreciated the silent pause between the bars of music, his deep concentration and meditative mood; I also love his, if I could say, “flamboyant and colourful” clothes. The vibrancy of the colours and the material of the clothes, coupled with his very special jewellery, places him in a total class of his own. I have sourced the Hebrew lettering for the words of “Kol Nidrei” and used some gold paint on torn paper with some bars of music notes to represent the title and add “musical” flavour. His agent, very kindly sent a photo of my painting to Maestro Maisky for his viewing. I was delighted
