Inspired to take up the pencil! I was told many times by professional and proficient artists, that before you can paint you must learn to draw! I had drawn quite a bit in the late 1980s and then moved onto water colour then oil painting.

Inspired by the cover portrait of Mme Guillement by Edouard Manet, of the beautiful book “The Hermitage”, (Western European Drawing), which is collection of graphic works in the Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg, is considered one of the best in the world. I seem to recall that I picked up this book in an antique shop A great find!
