Description
Out Of Her Mouth- oil on canvas 30×40 (nfs).(11.5.2026). Alongside the “Spaces” theme for the Love North Chingford Arts Traill October 2026, I have been simultaneously been painting some of Reneé’s black and white abstract inspired pieces in colour or my black and white versions. I believe Renée had been inspired by Mattisse, cut-outs during the late 1970s, and had created a vast body of black and white charcoal abstract works. This work, in the style of Renée’s black and whites, and my emerging style, is a take on one of the Cheddar Gorge Caves, based on photo that one of my patrons sent me. She wondered if it would inspire me to paint. It certainly did! Fascinating shapes in the caves, asking for their abstract version. And I have, for a while now, begin to see faces, images, animals and such in landscapes and abstract forms. I saw “her” face depicted here. When I completed the painting, standing back, I saw the “blackness” emptying out of her mouth. Hence the title.
