Description
And To Her, They Bow”, oil on box canvas, brush & palette knife, 40cmx30cm 5 July 2023 .This painting was inspired by the 15 priests on the altar at the “Most Highly Favoured Lady” event at Christ the King Catholic Church, London, from 4-6 May 2023. There appeared a “vision” or an “apparition” in my mind’s eye of the “women around Jesus” entering the church and the male clergy bowing in recognition of something they do not yet know or understand fully. That although the church is called “mother” and “she”, Christianity, the Papacy, and many Christian denominations are, for the most part, represented by men, evolving out of 10 thousand years of the Patriarchy. Women “left out” and under-represented. In the painting, the priests are portrayed somewhat suspended, fleeting, vacuous perhaps, ungrounded, dark, and in awe, bowing in front of yet enigmatic Divine and Sacred Feminine. My insight around this painting, is : “they praise Our Lady, and they are the ones who really need to immerse themselves into and learn about the Divine Feminine. To bridge that gap from their theoretical verbiage of “Mother Church” to their experiential knowledge, that the “Feminine in Divine is Present”. This is their learning. Amen to That!
