Description
Temple of the Underworld oil on canvas 40x30cm 6.9.26 Inspired by an original photo of the Cheddar Gorge Caves in Somerset. This work features Shiva the Vedic Deity of Destruction, who has emerged out of the rock “temple”, along with other creatures of the deep who have themselves appeared. My current direction follows the inner eye seeing what is hidden within each piece of research, each art work and each piece in progress – some shapes, creatures, human and other-worldly which stand out to greet me and find their way onto the canvas. What emerges is something completely different to any original. The style is definitely informed and inspired by my equally prolific artist and mother Renée Chatlani’s Black and white charcoal works as well as some oil paintings . This work is a bow to nature and all its splendour, the forests, to carnivals, to forest dwellers, seen and unseen and to those great masters who have inspired and continue to inspire us all, and those modern masters whose creativity knows no bounds.
